Week 2 • March 1-7
This week we read through Mark’s Gospel and again are reminded of who Jesus is by Mark’s testimony. Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians addresses divisions in the church and Paul’s challenge for them to be unified. The central theme of 2 Corinthians is the relationship between suffering and the power of the Spirit as testified by the life and ministry of Paul.
DAY 8 • March 1
Mark 1:1- Mark 8:30
Key Verse: Mark 4:39
What an amazing story! Can you imagine how exciting it was? Here is what we know. Storms happen in our lives, always threatening to overtake and overwhelm us. But we learn through this verse that Jesus’ words are enough for the storms in our lives. While daily intake of scripture won’t stop the storms from coming we can be assured of the peace that will surround us because of His powerful presence in our lives. Any storms raging with unnatural strength in your life? How will you respond? “Quiet! Be Still!”
DAY 9 • March 2
Mark 9:1 - Mark 16:12
Key Verse: Mark 12:28-31
Sometimes we as Christians can be very lazy people. How convenient to have Jesus simplify the Law into a few words, and yet how simple is to love God with every fiber of our being or our neighbor as ourselves. To let go of wanting to control all and to let go of our supreme selfishness is far from simple.
DAY 10 • March 3
1 Corinthians 1:1-8:13
Key Verse: 1 Corinthians 1:10
Paul goes head to head with problems within the church at Corinth -- sin problems. Through various sources, he had received reports of many of these problems including pettiness, jealousy, sexual immorality, divisiveness, disorder, and a failure to address, hold accountable, and discipline church members. The church today can learn how to handle these same delicate problems Paul faced as we study his responses and actions.
DAY 11 • March 4
1 Corinthians 9:1-16:24
Key Verse: 1 Corinthians 10:31-33
Corinth was not an easy city to start a church in. However, what we might see as a difficult area Paul saw as a place where God could be glorified. Paul encouraged the believers in Corinth to stand firm in an ungodly society. We can learn from this letter how to impact our world today. Ask God to reveal how you can follow Christ’s example and glorify God in the place He put you.
DAY 12 • March 5
2 Corinthians 1:1-13:14
Key Verse: 2 Corinthians 5:16-21
2 Corinthians is a powerful letter that speaks directly to several issues facing the Corinthian church. From a practical viewpoint, the message of the gospel is reconciliation. God has provided the Way in Jesus Christ for every sinner to be reconciled to God. As you read today, consider the attributes Paul mentions that should be present among ambassadors of Christ.
